- Stool microscopy (wet mount and iodine for ova, cysts and parasites) [The Fresher the Better! Shigella dries and dies]
- Stool WBCs
- Stool culture
Causative Organisms
- Bacteria: Shigella, Salmonella, Campylobacter, E. Coli (ETEC, EHEC)
- Viruses: Rotavirus
- Parasites: Giardia
